After being on my study abroad experience for a full week, I can say that the most important thing to experiencing the new–while not completely letting go of everything familiar–is to find old routines from your life at home and adapt them to your new environment. For me, this routine was running. At home I often ran around familiar parks and trails; however, at Cambridge I am able to run and have that normalcy in my daily routine, while at the same time being able to explore the city, and embrace the new around me.
Running here has helped me explore the city, find small places that I can return to later during my time here, and clear my mind. Exercising–alone–is a great thing to do while abroad, but any routine can help you cope with such a large lifestyle adjustment.
