There are so many things to do in Florence, Italy. My roommates and I traveled there and had no idea what to do in just 2 days. Here are my top recommendations!
1. The Duomo
The Duomo is a must! This gorgeous cathedral has so much to offer, but be prepared to wait in line. There is a museum underneath the cathedral which consists of the ruins of a church that was once there. So cool! In addition, you can climb 414 stairs to the top of the bell tower to get an amazing view of Florence. Or you can climb to the top of the Cupola- but make sure to book ahead of time! This was by far my favorite thing to do in Florence.
2. The David
Located in the Academia, the David is one of Michelangelo’s most famous works. The line to see the David isn’t as long as the Duomo! Or you can also buy skip the line passes. The Academia also has many other gorgeous works so be sure to check out the rest of the museum as well!
3. The Galileo Museum
This museum contains many scientific instruments including some that Galileo himself used. The museum even has some of Galileo’s fingers on display (gross but kind of cool!).
4. The Uffizi Gallery
This museum is one of the most visited in Italy. It contains many famous pieces of Italian Renaissance artwork. A few of the famous pieces included are “The Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli and “Coronation of the Virgin” by Fra Angelico.
5. The Food
Be sure to eat some good food while in Florence! Florentine steak is delicious and affordable. In addition, make sure to stop by the world famous sandwich shop called All’Antico Vinaio. If you have trouble finding it, just look for the long line! These sandwiches are delicious and filling for just five euros!
The Porcellino is a bronze hog statue located in Florence. It is tradition to rub the hog’s nose, stick a coin in its mouth, and drop the coin into the grate. However many times it takes for the coin to fall through the grate, is how many years you will return to Italy ( I got one woohoo!). The Porcellino is also located in a great shopping area so be sure to check out the leather bags and belts!
There are plenty of other things to do in Florence in addition! But if your time is limited, be sure to check out this list!
