It’s week two in Seoul, South Korea. Having visited this beautiful country last summer, everything is just as exciting and fast-paced as I remember. It took no time at all to get adjusted and settled in. As I am just in the beginning of classes though, I’d like to tell about my previous travels.
I flew out on December 27, 2016 for Hanoi, Vietnam. For 9 weeks I ventured all over 5 countries: Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, and Japan. I feel so fortunate because my best friend and I were able to plan this trip out pretty perfectly! We only had one hotel booked when we left the U.S. and carried only the essentials with us. To be honest, I was terrified of the unknown that awaited us, but now I am so grateful for everything that we experienced during our trip. I have more adventures to tell than I have time to type! I’ve learned so much and picked up so many useful skills along the way. My favorite memory would have to be riding elephants in Chiang Mai!
We followed a fairly simple “backpacker’s” route. The major cities we visited: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Siem Reap, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Tao, Singapore and Tokyo. We explored all the must-see attractions: Ha Long Bay, the Mekong Delta, the Khmer Rouge Killing Fields, Angkor Wat, the Royal Palace, the Marina Bay Sands, Harajuku district and the famous Shibuya Crossing. Each country is so beautiful and rich with culture. I have a personal reason for loving each. I was so excited to celebrate the Chinese New Year in Singapore! The Chinatown area was extravagantly decorated for the year of the fire rooster. We witnessed the Chinese Dragon Dance, a firework show, and tried the famous pineapple tarts. I spent my 21st birthday in Tokyo, a dream come true! The greatest thing about our trip is that we met so many people and had so many friends to help us and take us around. More to come~this has truly been an unbelievable life experience!!
