May Days

Since I last wrote there have been many celebrations here in Sydney. Firstly, we started off with celebrating Cinco De Mayo. Not many Aussie’s know what the holiday is, but we definitely didn’t let that stop us from celebrating! We found a trendy Mexican cantina to have dinner and then ended up at one of the more popular clubs in the city, Ivy. The club is really cool because they have two floors, both indoors and outdoors, as well as each room is sound proofed so the music is different everywhere you go.

Two weekends ago was my best friend, MK’s 21st birthday. Her parents had been traveling around Australia and were in Sydney for the week of her birthday, so it was nice to have a little bit of home here after so many months away. We spent the weekend exploring parts of Sydney with her parents and showing them parts of the city that we enjoy the most. We ended up doing the famous Bondi to Coogee walk, which is around 3 miles total. The walk is absolutely breathtaking because the whole route is located along the beaches and cliffs of Sydney. At the end of the walk we ended up having dinner at the Coogee Beach Bar, which has really great food and a nice atmosphere.

After dinner, we ended up back her parent’s house and relaxed on the couches and slept over that night. It felt like freshman year again, when you return home after months of sleeping on a tiny dorm bed and get to enjoy a nice big comfortable bed. It was beyond heavenly. The next day we took her parents around the rocks and through the markets and saw the oldest house in Sydney, Cadman’s Cottage. After pottering around the city for the day we went back to her parent’s place and celebrated MK’s birthday American style and made her, her own birthday sign to keep with tradition.

The next weekend, my friend Madison had a couple of her friends from home who are studying abroad in New Zealand come and visit. We took them out to Bondi Beach and we spent the day exploring the cute beach town. That night we celebrated another friend’s birthday and went out in Darling Harbor, which is another popular area of the city to go out. A lot of the bars on this side of town are along the wharf’s, so wherever you go you get a gorgeous view of the water and boats.

All in all, the past two weeks have been pretty packed, but extremely fun. Now looking forward to the next few weeks as my friend from home, who’s originally from Australia is visiting and I have my own birthday to celebrate!
